A few weeks ago, my father sat at the kitchen table and shared that he wanted to launch a packaged guacamole product.
He already runs large scale ripening facilities across Lebanon, mostly for bananas and avocados. Under his brand Mozo, he recently introduced ready-to-eat avocados, solving a common frustration: either people can’t find ripe ones, or they buy them unripe and wait days for them to soften.
This new idea, packaged guacamole, feels like a natural next step. It also makes sense operationally as it helps reduce overstock and use ripe avocados that aren’t perfectly shaped for retail but are still completely fine. Instead of letting them go to waste, we turn them into something people actually want to eat.
Unlike many in his industry, my dad doesn’t just focus on logistics. He watches trends and isn’t afraid to try something new. So when he mentioned this plan, I was curious. Then he asked me for help.
Today, during a quick meeting, he looked at me and said:
“Yalla stelmiya, dabre halik. Which basically translates to “This project is yours now”
So now I’m leading the launch of Mozo Guacamole. Hahahaha.
This week, I’m doing market research, competitor analysis, and trying to understand what it would take to actually launch, and maybe even scale, this product. Also understanding what the product will look like (Do we want to do fresh guacamole that has a short shelf life or create more of a sauce that has a longer shelf life). All while taking summer courses and training weekly for a case competition.
Honestly, I have no idea what I’m doing. This feels bigger than me, and definitely not something I ever imagined myself working on.
But I don’t want to not work on it.
It’s chaotic, it’s new, and it might not go anywhere but I know I’m going to learn a lot. And for now, that’s enough reason to keep going.
Updates soon. See ya.
Will also soon publish a post all about my father’s unusual business and how MOZO is becoming a market leader.
